Are you bothered by wrinkles found on your forehead or between your eyebrows? Wrinkles like these are known as “dynamic wrinkles” and make effective targets for treatment with BOTOX® injections. Many patients prefer this type of treatment since it helps relax your wrinkles but does not involve surgery or any downtime.
What Is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a purified protein solution that is delivered via injection to treat “dynamic wrinkles” like those found between the eyebrows or on the forehead. It is also used for the treatment of migraine headaches and hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating.
Injections are used to treat frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet, squint lines, and neck lines. BOTOX® can also be used on other parts of the face like for raising part of an eyebrow that is sagging.
The product has a record of safe use spanning several decades. After injection, it does not travel systematically within your body. Instead, it stays at the site of the injections to temporarily relax your wrinkles.
How Does It Work?
The solution contained in BOTOX® will temporarily relax facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. The product acts as a sort of nerve block to prevent the transmission of messages between the brain and affected muscle. Since the muscle does not receive the message to contract, it cannot form a dynamic wrinkle at that location.
Some patients notice initial results within three days of their treatment, but it could take as long as one week to experience maximum effects. You may need to return after your initial set of injections for an assessment of your response.
Patients typically experience results of their BOTOX® injections for anywhere from three to four months. They may need to return fewer times after their first few sessions, since less is needed to maintain relaxation once it has been established. Individual results may vary.
Can BOTOX® Be Administered to Anyone?
This treatment is not for women who are pregnant, nursing, or patients with certain neuromuscular diseases. If you are allergic to human albumin, you should not have the treatment. Our team of professionals can discuss your candidacy with you when you visit us for your initial consultation.
