The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic which is a natural occurring molecule in the body that assists in the breakdown and absorption of fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells and once they are destroyed they can no longer store or accumulate fat. This results in a reduction in fullness under the chin and an improved chin profile.
Once the fat cells are destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. So the fat loss in those cells is permanent; however the treatment does not prevent new cells from forming. Continuing with a healthy active lifestyle and diet will have the best results long term.
