Hi everyone. Today we’re talking about Neuromodulators, meaning Botox and discord. Those are our two favorites that we use here at Sarah Hamilton face, and I’m going to explain to you how they work in relaxing the muscles to give our eyes more of a lift and to make us look less tired. So here on our beautiful patient, Christie, she would like a little bit more of a lift in her brows in her eyes. If you look a little bit closer, frown for me, the muscle complex here pulls together and down. So Botox or Dysport will relax that muscle and it’ll actually lift up and out. And then if you look on the corner of her brows here, the top of the eye muscle, close your eye, real tight, pulls down. When we relax that muscle, it will lift up and give a nice brow lift. So Botox and Dysport take about three to four days to start taking effect and actually take up to 14 days to take full effect. So I always tell my patients, give it a full two weeks until you see the final result. She will get a nice lift through here and then a nice brow lift through here, but it won’t be like a crazy looking brow lift. It’ll be subtle enough, but you’ll notice it. You’ve had it done before. I’m Ashley Step and I’m a nurse injector and laser specialist here at Base. Today I want to discuss the options of laser treatments we offer here. Our BBL treatment is amazing at clearing up superficial brown pigmentation, sun damage, anybody who flushes easily or who has rosacea. It does a really amazing job of not only clearing up current acne, but also targeting the pigmentation that is left over from acne scarring, and we’re super excited to now be offering a laser treatment for the body. Any sort of pigmentation or redness, people are loving the results and it really gives our skin a nice glow. And then we also have our mxi laser. It’s a step above the BL, but it goes a little bit deeper, so it does help with overall skin brightness and pigmentation, and also helps to stimulate some collagen and elastin. Today I’ll be talking about the diamond moxie, which is a treatment where we incorporate BBL our broadband light with our non-ablative fractionated laser treatment. Moxie. Our patients have been loving this treatment with minimal to no downtime, can even pop in for a lunchtime treatment and leave with sunscreen on protected and ready for your day. We usually like patients to do around three to four treatments depending on your end goals. Ashley and I are going over our favorite treatments and our top three skincare products. So Ashley, we’ll start with skincare.

Ashley: My first favorite product is ZEO Oil Control Pads. I know they’re great for reducing sebum in the skin, killing bacteria that can cause congestion in blackheads, acne, and they also bring the skin back to a neutral pH, so all your products penetrate better. My next favorite product is the Alpha at Clearing Serum. I love it because it’s anti-aging and also anti-acneic in one skincare.

Speaker 1: What’s your third?

Ashley: My all-time favorite sunscreen is ELTA MD Clear, which is great for people prone to acne, rosacea, or pigmentation, and it’s the tinted version.

Speaker 1: That brings me to my favorite, the Skin Better Science Smart Tone, SPF 68. First and foremost, you have to have a good sunscreen. It has to have a physical block like zinc or titanium oxide that blocks the UVA rays, which are the aging rays, and the B rays. My next favorite is Alto, it has 19 antioxidants which protect your skin against free radical damage. I use it AM and PM. I put it on first or second after my alpha rut, and then I’m really obsessed now with the winter months with the Trio.

Ashley: Love Trio.

Speaker 1: And it always goes on last either morning or night. It protects the lipid barrier, so it’s really hydrating high moisture and great for acne patients too. Now we’re going to talk about our top three favorite treatments. Ashley, you go first.

Ashley: My top three favorites, I like to call the skin trifecta, which increases collagen and elastin. It’s basically like a collagen fertilizer. It gives you pretty glowy skin. I’m really excited about the RF Microneedling. I am too. It does an amazing job of tightening sagging skin, neck, and the eyes. It does such a great job. And then the third favorite would just be our tried and true VVL. I love it because it helps with my vascularity and my brown. So it just makes my skin super even.

Speaker 1: My top three. First and foremost, I really believe that healthy skin is paramount. Everybody loves a halo treatment. It probably has such a high percent of patient satisfaction. It gives you new skin. It really gets a lot of deep sun damage, some fine lines, if you’re 35 and over and you’re starting to see some signs of aging, the halo is for you. Second would be Botox to open up eyes. So I really love the Botox and the glabella. It lifts the lateral brow, so just looking the eyes up. Third, I would have to say the new PicoSure laser for me because I get more browns and it does a really good job targeting the pigment and also texture.

Ashley: Yeah, and it’s great for all skin types, so that’s great.

I’ve dealt with this my whole life, and it’s pretty nice to walk out of my house now and not have to feel like I’m being stared at for reasons I don’t want. Oh my God, why am I crying? I’m Bree. I’ve struggled with acne my whole life and nothing seemed to have worked. I did every prescription product under the sun. I’ve tried every over the counter item you could think you could buy. I’ve tried every single as seen on TV thing you could order and nothing worked. And so I saw it on Facebook and I had the day off and figured, well, I can at least go in for a consultation and see one more place and see if someone else could do something for me. And I did. And I met Nikki.
She asked, what do you want? What do you out of these treatments? And I said, honestly, I just want to be able to walk out of my house and not feel like they’re looking at my skin. I want them to look at me. And she just kind of chuckled a little and kind of went through the whole process of this is what the BVL does, this is why it works differently for different people because we have all these different types of lights and types of treatments that we can combine to make it work for you. So we did it. I signed up for it and we did a total of five treatments, and then we also added, each time we added something different as far as skincare, and so we added a little bit of the ZEO products. Then we added a little bit of the skin, better science products. And then I took every photo every day for six months, and all of a sudden you could see it by the third and fourth treatment. I was like, oh my. Oh my God. It’s working. It’s actually working. I’ve dealt with this my whole life and it’s pretty nice to walk out of my house now and not have to feel like I’m being stared at for reasons I don’t want.
Oh my God, why am I crying now? I can walk into work and I can talk to my coworkers, and I can talk to my patients, and they don’t see that. They see me. They see someone that they can relate to, and I don’t know how else to explain it, but they changed my life. It might sound silly, it’s just acne. Everyone has acne. Everyone deals with acne. But when it changes who you are and how you feel, it’s not easy. I’m going to get emotional. You got to cut that out.

I think a lot more men would address these problems if they knew that this was okay to address the problem. You know what I mean? That it wasn’t a weird place to go into. And it’s not just for females. About 35 years old, I started seeing redness all over my forehead and particularly my side. That would be in your window when you’re driving. I went to a dermatologist. I went to my doctor. My sister’s actually a licensed nurse practitioner. She gave me a bunch of dietary things to follow. I mean, I did everything. I didn’t do niacin anymore. I stopped eating gluten. I stopped eating everything I thought might be contributing rather to my red face when the dermatologist saw me, took him about four seconds without a biopsy. Is it? That’s sun damage, that’s environmental damage. And he basically gave me that there’s no hope. He said, you might want to talk to a plastic surgeon about whitening or lightening the skin. That’s about as best answers as he gave me. And no real aftercare after that. Just like, Hey, well go look around. I didn’t have a direction.  I didn’t know where to go. I called local people. I put an ad on Facebook, really, really putting my feelers out there and doing my own homework online, trying to find what lasers work best for this kind of thing. And I came to find out the best laser for the job is what they have here. Unbeknownst to me, I was told a quandary of different things that I wasn’t told at other places. I was armed with knowledge. I was armed with actual information, not just the procedure was done and I felt better about it. I got a game plan now, and that’s rare. You know what I mean? That’s rare. You usually leave with questions instead of answers or from a place like this. I left with some answers and I felt solid. And had I never gotten that knowledge, I’d still be in the dark. The real question is, are you happy with you? Are you being the best you could be? And I think a lot of guys would easily just sweep things under the rug. And I think me being a guy that came and did it, I could be a spokesperson for it. I tell anybody that’ll ask me, yes, here’s how bad I looked. Look at it. Look what it looks like now. Here’s where I am. Here’s where I came from. And if you have an insecurity, don’t be shy. Don’t be why we live once. Why sit at home and be miserable? You know what I mean? I found honesty here. Bedside manner. I found aftercare. I found when I called, they remembered my name. They remembered who I was. That was huge. And I probably would’ve came back even if the results were way less, just because I had a good experience.
